Dr. Edward Heidtman

Dr. Edward Heidtman is a native of Central Florida. He received both his undergraduate
and medical degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville, and received
the honor of Phi Beta Kappa during his undergraduate years.
Dr. Heidtman completed his residency at the Greenville
Hospital System where he delivered over a thousand babies, performed hundreds
of gynecologic surgeries, and received recognition for his surgical skills and
clinical research. A sixth-generation Floridian, he assumed that his time in Greenville
would merely be a “change of scenery” for a few years before returning to Central
Florida to be nearer his family’s orange groves. However, he fell in love with
the area and decided to make the Upstate his permanent home.
After completing residency, Dr. Heidtman worked at a practice in Spartanburg
for 5 years before returning to Greenville to join a smaller practice where he
could focus
more on individualized care, and the Carolina Center for Women's Health was created.
Four years later, Carolina Center for Women's Health merged with the former Greenville
East Center for Women, forming Carolina Women's Health and moving the practice
to its current location on Halton Road in Greenville.
Dr. Heidtman and his wife, Leigh, have two children. He enjoys
traveling, spending time with his family, water sports, snow skiing, golf, playing
the piano and landscaping. He and his wife are very active in the community and
she is on the boards of several charitable organizations. They attend the Buncombe
Street Methodist Church.
Dr. Heidtman has special interests in minimally-invasive women's surgeries and
is one of few OB-GYNs in the Upstate trained to both perform surgery on the
da Vinci Robotic Surgical System as well as perform Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) hysterectomy,
with a single incision through the belly button. He also is currently serving
as a proctor, helping train other physicians in
the latest techniques for minimally-invasive hysterectomy. He is a Fellow of the
American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology
and is a member of the South Atlantic Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists,
the Southeastern OB-GYN Society, as well as other local, state, and national professional
societies.
